| Things I splurge on |
In this blog I plan on talking about a lot of things. But I don't do everything cheap. Here's a list of things I won't splurge on:
Purses- I'd rather have no purse than a cheap purse. Besides I may spend $100 or so dollars for a purse, but it will last me a long time!
Medical Care- Luckily I have insurance. But if I didn't I would rather be in debt than dead!
Feminine Products- For some reason I don't feel safe buying generic pads and such.
Diet Dr. Pepper- Oh how I love my DDP
That said, I am always looking for these things at good deals. But if I can't find it at a good deal I will buy it full price or do without until I can afford the real thing (except medical...) .Labels: about me |

| Formal |
Every other year my university has a school wide formal. This year I didn't have a dress (well I did but not one I wanted to wear...) and the one I like was $58 and I just could not afford that.
So I walked around the mall aimlessly looking and hoping for something cute, sexy and cheap. I went to Belks and found a beautiful dress for $108. It was on the clearance rack for $18! I could afford that and at the cash register it was $1 cheaper than the tag (don't laugh, that can buy me an icee at Target).
I found a cute pair of flats for $20 at Payless and I get a 5% AAA discount there.
On the night of the dance my roomate did my makeup. And instead of going out to dinner we had wine and cheese at our place (I had to pick up the cheese and a bottle of wine for a total of $10).
So my formal costs: $17 for the dress (paired with a shrug I already had) $19 for the shoes $10 for the food ---------------------- $46 Total
My total was a $12 cheaper than the dress I was about to buy! And I looked cute if I do say so myself!Labels: clothes |

| What's this blog about?! |
I decided to create Frugal Coed because I am cheap.
Well not cheap by choice, I'm a college student and have no money! I make about $400 a month. When you subtract my $143 (my parents pay the other half) rent and an estimated $100 a month in utilities (I have 2 roommates) I only have $157 for the rest of the month. This has to cover food, gas and any other expenses that come up. Luckily the internet has tons of message boards and blogs devoted to living the frugal lifestyle. BUT they are all devoted to families. Frankly I don't have the time nor the need to cook in family size portions. I don't own a slow cooker and I don't like beans.
So I decided to create a blog to share my tips on living on an (extreme) budget for a single person. I am also looking for more tips...like how can I afford good wine on a cheap beer budget? Anyone? Anyone?Labels: about me |
